JKR/RG is so good at character development and the Robin-Strike combo is one of her best。 I think we could have done without about 200 pages HOWEVER I’m already wishing for more, so…
Ali,
4 stars。I was hesitating between 3 and 4 stars, but willing to give it 4, as this book was really good, even though with some fails。First of all, its volume。 It is rather long, but i felt that half of the episodic characters could have been cut off, because they really did not bear any value for the story-line。 They were there to throw you away from the guilty party but it was rather obvious。 They just added to the confusion, a lot of times I had to stop and go back to double check which one was 4 stars。I was hesitating between 3 and 4 stars, but willing to give it 4, as this book was really good, even though with some fails。First of all, its volume。 It is rather long, but i felt that half of the episodic characters could have been cut off, because they really did not bear any value for the story-line。 They were there to throw you away from the guilty party but it was rather obvious。 They just added to the confusion, a lot of times I had to stop and go back to double check which one was this character and which was that - it was annoying。Then the format of the in-game conversations and twitter references。 Yes, they are the part of the settings but, again, felt a bit annoying, because there were two and three conversations running simultaneously and you have to remember which game name is supposedly refers to which person。As to the Strike and Robin and the plot itself, I think it was all good but could have been better。The first half of the book was holding my attention but after that it became a bit tiring - all those background characters, small hints and moves from one possibility to another。 The more prominent characters were well put together。 I like Madeline。 And the entrance of DCI Murphy was kind of cute。 I thought that Josh could have been brought more forward and played less bland。 The ending。。。 hmm。。。 I won't lie, I was disappointed。 But only a bit。 Because now I am soooooo waiting for the next book in the series!!! 。。。more
Kjirsten,
As always, Rowling slays。 Her personable characters, believable, real relationships, and engaging, never cloyingly sweet or annoyingly predictable plot lines without a doubt make her one of the best storytellers of today。 That was such a fun read。

Good story, and as we all know, she's a compelling writer, known for her page turners。 But 33 hours of audiobook is just way too much。 Even reading at 2X speed is more than necessary。 So 4 stars for story and 1 star for length。 Good story, and as we all know, she's a compelling writer, known for her page turners。 But 33 hours of audiobook is just way too much。 Even reading at 2X speed is more than necessary。 So 4 stars for story and 1 star for length。 。。。more
Carolyn Harper,
Well-written as always, though I struggled with all the characters and pseudonyms。 I also wasn’t much of a fan of the game conversations, though I understood why they were written as they were。 Strike and Robin’s relationship is always fun to read about, and Robin’s growth as a detective, person, and partner is well done。 To me, this wasn’t quite as good as “Troubled Blood,” but for Strike/Ellacott fans, it’s definitely worth reading。
Kate,
This continues to be one of my favorite series
Sandra,
I like this author。 Have read all the previous books。 I Preordered this book。 I have wondered several times why I am reading it。 Boring topic。 Many, many pages of reading “tweets”。 ?padding? I never quit a book once I have started, but have to make myself carry on this time。 I cannot in good conscience, recommend this book to anyone。 So disappointed。
Hannah,
I really enjoyed the mystery in this one。 It was really compelling and brought up many interesting questions and comparisons, and touched on lots of things I’ve been thinking about recently related to life online。 Despite it being so long, I was never bored and never found it to drag, but kept wanting to know more。 However, I found the conclusion to be disappointing for reasons I can’t say without spoilers。 Still looking forward to the next one, which feels ages away。
John,
A strange book。 Almost every page was interesting to read, but the story just is not a good story。
Jaksen,
Loved it。 Crazy long。 Tons of characters。 Layered story with subplots galore。 I just said, okay, read 100 pages a day and it can be done in ten days or so。 But nope, went to 200 pages, then 250 and finished it before I knew what was what。。。Two of my fav。 literary characters, Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott are now working as partners in their private detective agency。 The investigation this time centers on the death of a young woman - and the almost lethal attack on her former boyfriend - in Loved it。 Crazy long。 Tons of characters。 Layered story with subplots galore。 I just said, okay, read 100 pages a day and it can be done in ten days or so。 But nope, went to 200 pages, then 250 and finished it before I knew what was what。。。Two of my fav。 literary characters, Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott are now working as partners in their private detective agency。 The investigation this time centers on the death of a young woman - and the almost lethal attack on her former boyfriend - in a graveyard。 The pair had created a dark and comical cartoon known as the Ink Black Heart which centers on the adventures/antics of characters who inhabit a graveyard。 As the cartoon grows more popular there's interest in monetizing the series, which to many out there in fandom is anathema! No, no, you can't do that! So who how where when - and why would anyone want to kill the creator of such a beloved animated series? Well, I'm gonna digress。。。There are entire chapters in this book which take place in chat rooms, or feature twitter feeds, text messages and so on。 Having spent much of the first part of the 21st century IN chatrooms, and seeing how ppl talk, interact and comport themselves, I can say that this part of the book is SPOT ON。 Ppl show their worst and best sides on the internet, a fact which is well-known。 And in a chat room, OMG, yes! It's dynamic。 It's fascinating。 It's bloody well complicated。 I was in more than one chatroom about twenty years ago, me, an older individual who happened to enjoy not the chat so much - but the subject matter, a genre of music which isn't very popular among those my age。 It didn't matter。 I talked; I listened; I read; I learned - but some days it was crazy and I'd sign off with, 'what the heck am I doing here?'So I did find these parts of the book fascinating。 They also helped make a very heavy and long story much lighter as those pages - well, you just fly through them。Anyhow, one piece of advice to anyone planning to read this book, make a cue card, because there are a lot of characters here。 There are the victims' friends, roommates, loves and lovers。 Then there are the members of a chatroom dedicated to a game based on the cartoon。 And there's fans! And among the fans are haters, abusers, the entire panoply of what you find on the net。 There's lies and deceit, bombs and death threats。 The book does not hold still for a minute - or a page。 And on top of all that you have Strike and Robin and their back-and-forth, will she, is he, why don't they relationship。 Can't give it anything less than five stars。Five stars。 。。。more
Jill,
Great book with many, many characters to get to know …One of the hardest things in Galbraith books are the many, many characters written into the storyline。 However, it was another great book with mystery upon mystery to process through。 In the end, it was shocking and heart pounding to find out who was Anomine。 Awesome story。 Another book I could not put down and which will be read over and over。

3。5* So of the moment and awash in grubby social media, this one felt distant, the screen always up, but Strike and Ellacott are both too vibrant and too gun-shy to look away from, lest you miss their next triumph or head-shaker。 Bring on #7, and let it not be the last, please。
Michele,
I really enjoy the main storyline of Strike and Robin。 I'm always a bit nervous about how scary the main mystery line will be。 This one is a very interesting premise, and, as usual, one must pay very close to all the details JK/RG provides to even get near the "who dunnit。" My favorite part of reading this series is recognizing her voice and rhythm in the writing。 Most important lesson to be learned here: Get off the devices and have real life relationships with people。 Don't fall into the trap I really enjoy the main storyline of Strike and Robin。 I'm always a bit nervous about how scary the main mystery line will be。 This one is a very interesting premise, and, as usual, one must pay very close to all the details JK/RG provides to even get near the "who dunnit。" My favorite part of reading this series is recognizing her voice and rhythm in the writing。 Most important lesson to be learned here: Get off the devices and have real life relationships with people。 Don't fall into the trap of falling for or hurting those you do not know personally IRL; you are important whether for good or for bad, so be good to yourself and others, be kind, and look for ways to enhance lives not detract。 。。。more

Long but worth the time。 Very well written, completely captivating。 A good look at the cesspool that is social media and the darker side of the web。
Manuel Gómez-Ortigoza,
good narrative, yet a bit slowLiked it, the narrative is good, the author knows her trade, yet it felt a bit slow and the Strike Robin romance attempts after five years are absurd even for fiction

Phew! What a ride! Roughly 30 hours of gripping, mind blowing, carefully crafted page turner with all the twists and turns you can imagine。 I have two books lined up for this month’s book clubs and I couldn’t think of taking on any of them before I was done with Cormoran’s and Robin’s new adventure。 With this said, it was not my favorite book of the series。 Somehow at times it was a little too much - too many characters, agendas, quotes, threads, references。 I seriously entertained an idea of ge Phew! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Just to be upfront, I’m not giving this a bad review because I think the author or the content is transphobic in any way。 I don’t quite see the sense in rating books based on our judgement of our reading of some author’s views。 Anyway。 I’m giving it two stars because the character that is supposed to be super likeable, Robin, is really annoying in this book。 She’s judging people, or stopping herself from judging people, all the time。 There’s one scene where she thinks a character is pathetic, li Just to be upfront, I’m not giving this a bad review because I think the author or the content is transphobic in any way。 I don’t quite see the sense in rating books based on our judgement of our reading of some author’s views。 Anyway。 I’m giving it two stars because the character that is supposed to be super likeable, Robin, is really annoying in this book。 She’s judging people, or stopping herself from judging people, all the time。 There’s one scene where she thinks a character is pathetic, literally that’s the word used, because she shows pleasure at being complimented。 And then I have to endure twenty other scenes where she has to stop herself from blushing like a schoolgirl whenever Strike says “good job”。Also, can we talk about her and Strike not being able to have a conversation with other people without one of them being hit on? I think there’s a very simplistic view of attraction in the book: the female detective is pretty and smart, therefore, guys keep fighting to ask her out。 Jasmin W。, Hartella, is repeatedly described as fat, and it’s not believed as possible she’s having a relationship with another, more handsome character。 Really? Another thing: I repeat, I don’t see transphobia in the book, but I do see a bit of a misogynistic pattern… it reads like a person that likes men way more than women, and lets them get away with way more, wrote a book and then edited it heavily to conform with current views。 It’s hard to put your finger on it, but the bits of the book that are supposed to be about gender equality and Robin establishing herself as a professional equal… I don’t know, it really didn’t feel like her heart was in it。 I would have forgiven all of this and more if the plot of the book had been as well crafted as the previous ones: brilliant detective stories with all the pieces fitting perfectly and explained at the end。 But to top it all, I, who can’t never ever figure out or guess who did it, pointed my finger at Gus from almost the beginning。 I mean, he’s the only troubled teenager she gives us! Robin and Strike don’t even work it out, they just get hit by the truth in the head。 And then the book ends abruptly, with barely an explanation from the characters, some conversation with Gus, anything-to-justify-the-1000-pages-read。 I think Troubled Blood (that final talk between Strike and the murderer!) was masterfully done, but this doesn’t cut it。 I’ll read one more and then I’m out。 Life’s just too short。 。。。more

This review in the LA Times sums it up pretty well:https://www。latimes。com/entertainment。。。There's a lot here to critique, but doing so requires engaging beyond just the headlines and/or screenshots aimed at ginning up outrage; given the theme of the book, it's enough to make a more cynical reader wonder if JK herself (or perhaps her PR team) are behind the outrage in an effort to leverage her notoriety to sell more copies。 Frankly, I'm not sure this book is good enough to warrant that level of This review in the LA Times sums it up pretty well:https://www。latimes。com/entertainment。。。There's a lot here to critique, but doing so requires engaging beyond just the headlines and/or screenshots aimed at ginning up outrage; given the theme of the book, it's enough to make a more cynical reader wonder if JK herself (or perhaps her PR team) are behind the outrage in an effort to leverage her notoriety to sell more copies。 Frankly, I'm not sure this book is good enough to warrant that level of discourse。 It's just。。。 fine。 It's a page-turner, but it's overstuffed。 The main characters are as likeable as ever, but they're stagnant。 The mystery is sufficiently interesting, but the tweets and online dialogue are cringeworthy。If you're not already invested in the series, this one's not worth your attention。 If you are, buy it used or check this one out from the library and/or consider a donation to the Trevor Project (or another organization supporting trans youth) as penance for lining Rowling's pockets。Really more like 2。5。stars, but substantially more enjoyable than my other 2 star reads and not much less enjoyable than my 3 star reads, hence the 3。 。。。more

Progress ?A good read although a bit long with all the secret messaging between moderators to be trudged through。 Could have used one last edit, to my mind。Will CBS speak up to Robin in time or will she enter a relationship with the policeman? Must wait and buy the next book to see。Sigh。

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, just like the previous Cormoran Strike books。 Robert Galbraith is a superb storyteller and writes the kind of crime stories I totally enjoy。 Having said that, the Kindle edition is partly difficult to read due to the use of graphics for the copy of the chat channels in the computer game that is a main part of the book。 On the Kindle I have it is not possible to enlarge the graphics and when there are three chat dialogues side-by-side the font in the graphic is so sm Thoroughly enjoyed this book, just like the previous Cormoran Strike books。 Robert Galbraith is a superb storyteller and writes the kind of crime stories I totally enjoy。 Having said that, the Kindle edition is partly difficult to read due to the use of graphics for the copy of the chat channels in the computer game that is a main part of the book。 On the Kindle I have it is not possible to enlarge the graphics and when there are three chat dialogues side-by-side the font in the graphic is so small that it is a real pain to read。 However, as the story is so captivating I forced myself to get through it all and luckily when the story really takes off there are less and less of the chat graphics。 Recommended。 。。。more

Am I supposed to remember this character they're talking about?" because most of the suspects are only mentioned briefly or interviewed once in the book。 The relationship between Cormoran and Robin doesn't really develop at all either。 。。。more
